Labiaplasty is a procedure for altering the labia minora (inner and outer), the folds of skin surrounding the human vulva.
There are two main categories of women seeking cosmetic genital surgery: those with congenital conditions such as intersex, and those with no underlying condition who experience physical discomfort or wish to alter the appearance of their genitals because they believe they do not fall within a normal range.
Labiaplasty (labia reduction and shaping) is becoming more popular as more women are realizing there is a solution to their concerns in this area. In many cases the procedure is more than cosmetic, it truly improves a woman’s quality of life.
Mostly, women live with discomfort, embarrassment, avoidance of certain tight fitting clothing and feel self conscious in their relationships because of labial asymmetry, protuberance, or excessive labial show. Many of the women were often unaware that there is a surgery that could help them.
In our Go Cosmetic Clinics, our Labiaplasty specialists help women comfortably find the solution to their problems. In your consultation, our specialists and our staff will do everything we can to make you as comfortable as possible. We will discuss what your specific concerns are and develop an individual goal for you.
Candidates for Labiaplasty?
Enlarged labia are a very common condition that occurs for a variety of reasons. For some women, this condition is congenital (they were born with it). For others, it may occur as a result of pregnancy or aging. Regardless of the cause, the condition can lead to:
- Embarrassment during sexual intercourse
- Discomfort when wearing bathing suits, tight clothes, or jogging shorts
- Irritation and pain during intercourse
- Irritation when performing everyday activities
Go Cosmetic Clinics can help you resolve both aesthetic and functional issues caused by your enlarged labia. If you experience any of the above-mentioned problems, you will most likely benefit greatly from the labiaplasty procedure.
Vaginal Rejuvenation has become a hot topic over the past ten years or so as grooming habits have changed. With the majority of women shaving, waxing or doing some type of grooming they have become more aware of the appearance of their vaginal area.
The most common method for rejuvenation is trimming the labia minora (inner lips) this will remove the excess skin that may hang below the vagina.
The second method is fat grafting to the labia majora (outer lips) this will add volume to the area and improve the deflated appearance that women can have after having children or after weight loss.
The two methods can be done together to give the patient the best overall aesthetic result.
The cost depends on which of these procedures is performed and whether the procedure is performed under local anesthesia or with some type of anesthesia.
I would recommend that you consult your board certified plastic surgeon so that you can be evaluated and discuss your options.
The Labiaplasty Procedure
The type of labiaplasty selected depends in great part to the patients desires. Some patients find a darker colored labia minora unattractive and desire a labia reduction that corrects this darkened color. In these patients a labial leaving behind a lighter colored and more youthful appearing labia.
Other patients prefer to preserve the darker colored margins of the labia minora in addition to reducing its size. In these patients a reduction labiaplasty technique is performed that reduces the size of the enlarged labia minora while maintaining its darker colored borders. In all labiaplasty procedures, absorbable sutures are used for wound closure.
Labiaplasty may be performed under local or general anesthesia. The procedure typically takes about one hour to perform and patients are discharged home later the same day.
Recovery following Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery or Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty surgery is generally very well tolerated. As with all surgical procedures, a restful week should be planned for after surgery. The labia given their thin skin, will swell significantly after surgery. This swelling is usually much improved after one week and essentially resolved by two weeks. Our specialists will ask you to avoid tight fitting underwear during the recovery phase. Sexual intercourse should also be avoided for several weeks after the procedure.
Complications after Labiaplasty are rare, but can occur. Carefully following tour specilist’s instructions will help reduce the risk of complications.
Undergoing a labiaplasty can help you:
- Improve the appearance of your vagina and vulva
- Reduce self consciousness during sexual intercourse
- Boost self confidence
- Relieve discomfort caused by clothes rubbing against the labia
- Eliminate pain during sexual intercourse
- Improve sexual satisfaction that is hampered by large labia
Recovery and Follow-Up Care
There is no overnight stay required for your labiaplasty procedure. Our team will give you detailed follow-up care instructions, which generally involve carefully washing the region and using antibiotic creams to prevent infection. It is important to diligently follow these instructions to facilitate proper healing. Recovery should take approximately 7-10 days, and discomfort will be minimal.
You can generally return to work within two to four days of your surgery, but you should refrain from vigorous activities such as jogging, biking, and heavy lifting for four to six weeks. It will take about six weeks before you can resume sexual activity.

Labiaplasty is the surgical procedure which reduces the size of, or reshapes, the labia minora. There are several reasons why women choose to have labiaplasty:
- Following childbirth your genital area can change shape or size leaving you feeling self-conscious about its appearance.
- The natural ageing process can cause the labia to lose tone or seem enlarged.
- Large or thick labia can cause discomfort when engaging in sport or wearing tighter clothing.
- You may dislike the appearance of your labia to the extent that it affects your sexual confidence.
