Male Eye lid Surgery – Blepharoplasty
Are your eyelids starting to droop?
Men often show early signs of ageing around the eyes. The phrase “the eyes are the window to the soul” may well be a true, but I would also add the statement that “the eyelids are the window treatments through which you see the soul.”
And the reality is that, for most men, ageing, sun damage, genetics, stress and environmental factors can all deteriorate the youthful vitality appearance of your eyes.
Loose hanging droopy skin, lateral brows that hang over the upper eyelids, and bulging fat pads below the eyelids with accentuated tear troughs put forth the image of fatigue and a loss of vitality.
This often results in partners, friends and colleagues saying that you ‘look tired’ or repeatedly asking if you are getting enough sleep.
Fortunately, plastic surgery to restore the upper eyelids to a crisp appearance with correction of any eyelid droop can be a game changer.
If your problem is more related to under eye puffiness or fatty-looking ‘bags’ under your eyes, then a lower blepharoplasty surgery can help restore a more youthful or bright-eyed appearance (saggy or baggy lids prevent light from reflecting in your eyes in photos).
Ideal Candidates for Male Eye lid Surgery
The best candidates for eye lid surgery are in good overall health and do not have any eye conditions or allergies that would impair healing. Although the procedure is generally performed on individuals who are 35 years of age or older, eyelid surgery can be performed on patients who are younger if surgery is needed. Candidates should have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure and desire to correct one or more of the following problems:
- Sagging upper eyelids
- Wrinkles underneath or around the eyes
- Puffiness and dark spots beneath the eyelids
- Excess skin in the lower eyelids
The eyelid lift procedure, also known as blepharoplasty, is one of the most gratifying aesthetic procedures performed at Go Cosmetic Clinics. The eyelid lift is often beneficial for patients of a variety of ages and helps the eyes look rested, youthful, and more attractive.
Male Eye lid surgery can offer many positive changes for patients, including:
- The puffy appearance of the upper or lower eyelids can be improved.
- Excess skin of the lower eyelid creating skin rolls or crepe-like wrinkles can be corrected.
- Droopyness of the lower eyelids can be treated.
- Depressions between the eyelids and cheeks can be improved.
- The shape of the eyelids can be modified in cases in which a more attractive shape is desired.
Types of Eye lid Lift (Male Eye lid Surgery)
Upper eye lid lift:
In this procedure, an incision is hidden within the natural fold of the upper eyelid and may extend into a natural, crow’s foot line. Through this incision, excess skin and fat is removed and contouring of the eyelid is performed. Once healed, this upper eyelid incision is well camouflaged and naturally hidden.
Lower eyelid fat removal (transconjunctival blepharoplasty):
In this technique, also known as the “scarless lower eyelid technique” or “transconjunctival blepharoplasty”, excess lower eyelid fat is removed with an incision completely hidden inside the eyelid. No visible scar is produced! This procedure may be all that some patients require to rejuvenate the lower eyelid.
Lower eyelid lift:
In the lower eyelid lift procedure, excess fat and skin is removed with an incision hidden just below the lower eyelashes. The incision is very well concealed and very difficult to see once it has healed. For many patients, the lower eyelid is also tightened in this procedure, giving a more youthful eyelid shape and tone..
Lower eyelid tightening (cathopexy):
Patients who have loose or droopy lower eyelids or just desire more youthful, higher lower lids, may benefit from a tightening procedure of the lower eyelid. In this procedure, the lower lid is lifted and tightened with a small, inconsipicuous incision.
Eyelid lift done in combination with forehead lift:
For patients desiring maximal improvement in the eyelid/brow area, Eyelid (Male Eye Lid Surgery) lifting and forehead/brow lifting are performed together, to rejuvenate the entire upper face. In this procedure, the forehead is tightened, wrinkles are improved, the brows are elevated, and the upper eyelids are restored to a more youthful, attractive appearance.
The surgical procedure involves excising a thin ellipse of skin from the upper eyelid. The incision is made in the upper eyelid’s natural crease so that when the incision line heals, it will be virtually invisible. A section of muscle underneath is also excised to create a clean upper eyelid crease and the fat distribution may be altered as well. The aesthetics of Male Eye lid Surgery has changed over the years. It has evolved from fat removal to fat preservation. As the face ages, it loses the fat that gives the face its youthful appearance. Therefore, often the fat of the upper eyelid is preserved while the redundant skin is excised. The goal is to rejuvenate the eyelids and not create a deep-set or hollow appearance. The male eye lid crease does not show as much as a female’s does so less skin is removed.
The Male Lower Eye lid Surgery is performed either through an incision inside the eyelid (transconjunctival blepharoplasty) or on the outside of the eyelid. The trans-conjunctival approach is especially ideal for younger men when there is no skin or muscle laxity. Some people have puffy lower eyelids either prematurely or genetically and this approach serves their purpose well. The procedure is performed by retracting the lower eyelid and making an inner eyelid incision. The fat is dissected free and partially excised and only the correct amount of fat is removed.
If the lower eyelid has laxity of the skin and muscle, an incision is made on the exterior of the eyelid below the eyelash line. Once the incision is made, the dissection is carried down to the fat layer that is trimmed, or in some cases, repositioned. The muscle that directly pulls the attachments of the overlying skin is tightened. The outer corner of the eyelid is anchored and then the excess skin is removed. The skin may be treated with a chemical peel or laser resurfacing to reduce crepiness.
WHAT RESULTS CAN BE EXPECTED?
Male Eye Lid Surgery -Blepharoplasty gives a person a more youthful and rested appearance without changing the shape or expression of the eyes. In some cases, peripheral vision will be restored to levels not enjoyed for many years. The results will look natural and balanced without any surgical look. Although the results can be expected to last for many years, the aging process will continue. At some point in the future, a small amount of excess skin or fat could be removed to extend the effectiveness of the original procedure.
